Food Stall Project:
Sajid Hussain
Sajid’s Vision
Sajid’s ultimate goal is to open his own shop selling kalege, chanee and karahi. A loan of 45,000 PKR (≈225 CAD) enabled him to purchase a movable food cart, a crucial step toward this vision as his profit has increased by 66%
The Impact
The food cart has allowed him to open up at just a five minute walk from home, extending sales hours and eliminating commute issues.
Being in the city gives him easier access to suppliers, removing inventory constraints. If he runs out of materials he can quickly buy for a local supplier and countinue his business for the day
He can operate daily regardless of weather, unlike the Mandi setup since he is not limited by mandi schedules and the food cart is above ground mitigating the impact of rain.
As a result, his take home income increased from 36,000 PKR to 60,000 PKR, and in the first two months, he repaid 12% of his loan, Alhumdullilah.
The Challenge
Limited sales due to inventory restrictions, how could only sell the amount of raw material he was able to carry to the mandi.
The mandi was open only three days in the week and often heavy rain or bad weather would render his business inoperable as his setup was on the floor.
Long commutes and lost work hours caused by the long distances travelled to reach the Mandi’s
