Spare Parts Project:
Asim Jaan
Empowering education for the underprivileged
About Asim’s Vision
Asim Jaan operates a roadside motorcycle repair and spare parts business in Rahim Yar Khan, serving daily commuters who rely on affordable and timely bike repairs for their livelihoods. Known in his community for his honesty, punctuality, and strong work ethic, Asim consistently opens early and stays late to ensure customers are not turned away without help.
For years, he has run his business independently with limited resources, relying solely on daily cash flow to sustain operations. His long-term vision is to maintain a fully stocked shop that allows him to serve customers efficiently, reduce lost sales, and build a stable income to support himself and his family.
The Impact
With the support of a PKR 80,000 loan, Asim was able to immediately stabilize and expand his spare parts and bike repair business, turning unmet demand into sustainable income.
By restocking essential spare parts such as oil, chain sets, engine components, and tires, Asim can now serve a significantly higher number of customers each day. Previously, customers were often turned away due to unavailable parts; now, most repairs and replacements can be completed on the spot. This has reduced lost sales, improved customer trust, and strengthened his reputation as a reliable service provider in the community.
The improved inventory has also allowed Asim to fully operate his shop throughout the day without interruptions caused by stock shortages. As a result, workflow is smoother, repair turnaround times are faster, and customers no longer need to return multiple times or seek alternatives elsewhere. This consistency has increased repeat customers and daily revenue, enabling Asim to continuously reinvest profits back into inventory.
From a financial sustainability standpoint, Asim has demonstrated strong responsibility and commitment. He has made timely repayments and, as his cash flow improved, voluntarily increased his repayment rate from 20% to 50% of his profits. This reflects both the business’s growing stability and Asim’s integrity as a borrower.
Overall, the loan has transformed a constrained roadside operation into a fully functioning, growth-oriented micro-business. It now supports higher customer volumes, generates more consistent income, and contributes to local mobility by ensuring essential bike repair services remain accessible to the community.
The Challenge
Despite strong demand and a trusted reputation, Asim faced operational barriers that restricted his business growth:
Inventory Constraints: Insufficient spare parts inventory caused customers to leave without service, directly limiting daily revenue and growth potential.
Communication Gaps: Without a personal mobile phone, Asim relied on a middleman for communication, leading to delays in coordination, ordering, and even loan processing.
Cash Flow Limitations: Limited working capital prevented bulk purchasing of essential items like engine parts, chain sets, oil, and tires, making it difficult to meet consistent customer demand.
These challenges created a cycle where demand existed, but the business lacked the capital needed to capture it.
